Middlesex University Core Staff Ethnicity Pay Gap Reporting
Ethnicity Pay Gap – Voluntary Reporting
Middlesex University recognises and is committed to challenging the structural barriers experienced by people of colour. To enable us to create equity within the University we are voluntarily reporting our ethnicity pay gap and will take steps to address it.
Unlike gender pay gap reporting, ethnicity pay gap reporting is not required by law but there are growing calls to make it a statutory requirement.
We have obtained a Bronze Award for our Race Equality Charter Application which contains actions to address the data collected.
We agreed to include all hourly paid staff and students where possible from 2022 hence the data set will have altered from the 2020 and 2021 pay gaps.
Middlesex University’s ethnicity pay gap (Core and hourly paid excluding MU Services Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary which has fewer than 250 staff and is exempt from mandatory reporting) at the reporting date of 31 March 2023 was 9.7% (mean or average), this compares with 2022’s figure of 14.0% (mean or average), and 9.7% (median) compared with 2022’s figure of 10.5% (median) in favour of white staff. This figure is based on an employee headcount of 2,372 (including hourly paid staff and students).
