Research activities

Amy's research interests and expertise include: mental health service evaluation; help-seeking behaviour, and wellbeing and gambling in military populations. Amy has used mixed methods to address study aims and has a particular interest in the use of Realist Evaluation approaches to evaluate complex healthcare interventions.

Amy has recently worked with the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and the Royal Air Force on exploring barriers to help-seeking behaviours in the RAF Family. This project includes currently serving RAF personnel, veterans of the RAF and partners of those currently serving. 


Current Teaching

Amy teaches across a range of programmes at Middlesex University; BSc Nursing (mental health, child and young people, and adult), mental health and social work. 

Amy is the programme leader for the PG Dip Mental Health Practice programme, which is delivered in collaboration with local NHS trusts. 

Amy specialises in the following areas:

  • Amy also leads on the Interprofessional Symposia which is available to all students within the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education. The symposia encourages students and practice colleagues from different disciplines to learn about a range of topical issues.

    Amy supervises a number of postgraduate students in their dissertations. 


    Biography

    Dr Amy Pritchard is a Lecturer in Mental Health and Chartered Psychologist. Amy joined Middlesex University in 2021 and currently works in the Department of Mental Health and Social Work within the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education.

    Amy completed her PhD in 2020, titled: A Realist Evaluation of a Recovery-Oriented Inpatient Service. The mixed methods project evaluated how recovery-oriented principles outlined in policies are being operationalised within practice, from the perspective of commissioners, staff and service-users. 

    Prior to joining Middlesex University, Amy was working as a researcher and Lecturer at Swansea University, supporting nursing, public health, health and social care and osteopathy undergraduate and postgraduate students.
