Research activities

My research interests include HRM in the global context, Comparative industrial relations, Latin American and European labour movements, Self-managed and co-operative enterprises, Sustainable livelihood strategies, Middle class coping strategies under economic crises, NGO management and social economy, Autonomism, Social movement theory, Class identity and consciousness.

Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in theManagement, Leadership and Organisations Department. I  received myPhD from Middlesex University, which focused on how professionals andmiddle-class people responded to unemployment and impoverishment during economiccrises (protest, coping strategies, entrepeneurial, consumer, labour andpsychological responses), using Argentina post-2001 as a case study. Iresearch on comparative citizen responses to financial crises in Europe andLatin America, workers' self-management, cooperatives, alternative post-crisisproduction models, transnational labour movements and how both personal andnational debt is resisted. I am Module Leader of HRM2118, 'HRM inPractice' and have recently been Module Leader of undergraduate HRM1003 'Work,Business and the External Environment' and postgraduate HRM4430 'LabourStrategies and the Contemporary Economy'. I also I am Co-Leader of theAlternative Organisations and Transformative Practices research cluster. I amcurrently involved in a research team with UNITE the Union in the designof their "Crisis Leverage Campaign, BA Betrayal".

Further, I am Chair of the Argentina Research Network and Authorof The Mobilization and Demobilization of the Middle Classin Revolt: Comparative Insights from Argentina (Routledge,2019). I am also Co-editor of two books: Argentina since the 2001Crisis: Recovering Reclaiming the Future (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014)and De la Crisis de 2001 al Kirchnerismo: Cambios yContinuidades (Prometeo, 2016). I have recently published in academicjournals such as Economy and Society, Sociology, LabourHistory and Latin American Research Review. I am also Chair of DebtJustice’s Academic Advisory Network. I regularly feature as a politicalcommentator on British and Latin American affairs and have appeared ontelevision, radio and newspapers includingThe Conversation, Daily Express, Telam, Open Democracy, Telesur, C5N,TodoNoticias and Radio Nacional Argentina.
