Research activities

Nathan's main field of research centres on relationships between families and educational settings and institutions. Specific research interests include: home-school relations, family support work, intersections between social work and education, education and family policy, and educational activism (particularly parental campaigns). Nathan also has a background in philosophy and has interests in philosophy of education and radical/alternative experiments in education.


Current Teaching

Nathan teaches across a range of modules at UG and PG levels, including modules on theory, methodology and policy in relation to the fields of education and early childhood.


Biography

Nathan Fretwell is Senior Lecturer in Education and Early Childhood in the Department ofEducation at Middlesex University, UK. He has considerable experience of teaching within HE and is also an experienced qualitative researcher within the field of education. His current research centres on family support work in schools and the phenomenon of parental activism in education. Nathan’s work hasbeen published in leading Education journals, including the BritishEducational Research Journal and Educational Philosophy and Theory.
