Current Teaching

Currently serving as Director of Programmes after eightyears as Programme Leader, I have developed and refined a student-centredapproach that emphasises personalised learning, fosters creative exploration,and encourages critical thinking. My teaching philosophy focuses on nurturingindividual potential while equipping students with the practical skills andtheoretical understanding necessary to succeed in the ever-evolving field ofdesign.

I have experience teaching across all years of theundergraduate programme, but my current role is focused primarily on enhancingthe first-year experience. In this capacity, I work to ensure a smoothtransition for students into higher education by fostering a supportive andengaging learning environment.

Biography

Claire Lewis, MA, BA (Hons), PGCE, SFHEA. I am the Directorof Graphics and Illustration Programmes and a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Designwithin the School of Design, Middlesex University. With over 15 years ofteaching experience at institutions such as London College of Communication andthe University of Westminster, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my role.Alongside my academic responsibilities, I actively engage in professionalpractice, and have a particular interest in typography and letterpress, areasthat continue to inspire my teaching and work.
