Research activities

Shyam's primary areas of research relate to the enhancement of weightlifting performance, particularly at an elite level. Given his position within GB Weightlifting, he is currently active in researching the following topics in preparation for the next Olympic cycle (LA 2028);

  • Seasonal variation in neuromuscular ability
  • Influence of neuromuscular ability on technique
  • Biomechanical factors affecting technique

  • Biography

    Shyam is a Technical tutor in Sport Science and has served at the university for over a decade. During this time he has developed the departments first distance education postgraduate programme in strength and conditioning. Shyam's research interests are the development of strength and power, with a specialism in the sport of weightlifting, of which he has coached at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
