The construction sector is a major part of the UK economy and any centrally procured project is required to comply with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its current global standards. This is the process of creating and managing construction information through a project's life cycle with higher efficiencies in workflows and processes using Technology and Integrated Digital Delivery as a catalyst.
We are one of the first institutions in the world to offer a work-based Building Information Modelling programme. This master's degree is specifically designed to meet the current shortage of high-quality graduate professionals by developing their skillsets in managing projects, global teams, and organisations in the efficient technical, operational and strategic coordination of processes, workflows, people, assets and state-of-the art technologies that BIM requires.
Our programme won bronze in the Hong BIM Awards 2023. The programme is one of the first MSc programmes globally, structured in all its modules to perfectly align with all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our perspective of BIM Management is an overarching umbrella that includes within it design, construction, information, project, supply chain and sustainability/circularity management.
The course is for experienced professionals who manage BIM projects including architects, architectural technologists, construction and civil engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing services (MEP) engineers, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) engineers, technicians, contractors, subcontractors, fabricators and manufacturers, Facilities and operations managers (FM & OM) and quantity surveyors.
Students on this course are often in full-time employment and you can study around your work and home commitments. You can finish the course in 12 months with the full-time study option or over two years with the part-time distance learning.
You can study the full MSc or the PGDip where you study two modules out of three for an MSc.

About your course
The course is divided into 3 consecutive modules: Technical BIM Management, Operational BIM Management, and Strategic BIM Management. If you complete just the first two modules, you'll be awarded a PGDip and if you complete all three modules, you'll be awarded an MSc.

You will explore the integration of information models comprising of 3D models, graphical and non-graphical data along with their database systems and documentation. You will learn the best practices for coordinating technical teams from various disciplines to create models, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. You will also acquire skills for research issues related to newly emergent BIM practices and processes, and develop skills for reviewing, critically analysing, reporting and presenting these issues.
This module aims to enhance your knowledge and understanding of BIM strategic implementation issues for integrated digital delivery strategies within organisations as a whole. You will gain the ability to forecast risks, design protocols and quality assurance, assess budget planning, define financial, commercial partnership opportunities for implementing BIM on an organisational level, change management and organisational training strategies. You will learn the best practices for the creation of teams from different disciplines, defining organisational structure and roles within the BIM process, according to the adoption strategy of the organisation.

Teaching
You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience.
On this course, all teaching and learning is online. You will meet, work and study with other students and your tutors virtually so you can learn at your own pace, in your own time.
The course is delivered completely digitally including our lectures, presentations, tutorials and a summer school thesis workshop through biweekly online interactive live webinars. Our academics and global industry professionals will offer presentations and webinars with plenty of opportunities for discussion.
For this distance learning course, you can study from anywhere with an internet connection.
You can come on campus in Hendon, north London which is also an opportunity for research, training, benefitting from the library and workshop facilities and preparation for work on your thesis
We aim to make timetables available to students at least 2 weeks before the start of term. Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions.
In a typical year, you’ll spend about 1200 hours on your course in full-time mode.
Outside of teaching hours, you’ll learn independently through reading articles and books, working on projects, undertaking research, and preparing for assessments including coursework and presentations.
We have a strong support network online and on campus to help you develop your academic skills. We offer one-to-one and group sessions to develop your learning skills together with academic support from our library, IT teams and learning experts.
There are no exams but your coursework including design projects, case studies, critical analysis, conference papers and your thesis for the MSc will be assessed. We provide case studies or you can use examples from your career to date.
You'll be provided with regular bi-weekly feedback on your deliverables from university staff and industry professionals. Additionally, you'll evaluate your own work, skills and knowledge and identify your strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Some assessment work will be done in groups where you will feedback on each other's progress.
Throughout each term, classes and workshops are designed to ensure you have numerous opportunities to receive regular feedback to help you progress your learning.
