About your course

Here is a brief overview of what you will study each year

This module aims to develop an advanced knowledge of and mastery in the student’s understanding of anatomy with particular focus on structure and function. The module will concentrate upon in depth knowledge of how structure affects the function of the musculoskeletal system and the advanced methods by which a health practitioner assesses both the injured and non injured person. Advanced skills in terms of assessment, clinical reasoning and professional conduct will be developed alongside the theoretical bases.

This module explores soft tissue therapy skills which will allow students to conduct client assessments and develop their client handling and interpersonal skills while delivering massage treatments. It will critically review the mechanisms of injury and detail the patho-physiological processes of healing and pain as they relate to recovery and treatment.

Students will gain advanced knowledge of soft tissue techniques and their practical application in the management of injuries and enhancing athletic performance. Through this module, students will explore a diverse range of advanced therapeutic skills, which will expand their toolkit of techniques to promote healing, reduce pain and inflammation, and aid in recovery. Additionally, students will develop the ability to analyze, evaluate and apply these therapeutic skills and modalities in clinical situations

This module develops a detailed knowledge of the screening methods to identify muscle imbalance, risk factors for injury and performance. The underpinning theories, science pertaining rehabilitation and training programme design will be presented.

Throughout the module students will develop the necessary skills through a range of resources to critically appraise, plan and implement effective corrective exercise programmes. The module will address conditioning and recovery methods to promote an innovative rehabilitation journey to develop robustness while encouraging performance gains, mitigation of risk of re-injury, and promoting career longevity.

This module aims to develop the student’s ability to apply and see the application of knowledge gained from other modules in relation to a real work scenario. You will be required to adopt a reflective and critical approach to your working practice and to promote a problem-solving approach in a work environment.

This module aims to equip students with the relevant knowledge and skills to undertake appropriate research in their subject areas. Students will learn searching strategies to identify relevant literature, how to critically appraise literature and relevant research methods topics such as research design, selecting and using suitable statistical tests appropriate to the subject area. This module will be delivered predominantly through shared and subject-specific online video tutorials allowing students to access a wide variety of resources which will prepare them for undertaking their dissertations. This innovative approach allows students to develop their research methods skills at their own pace with relevant step-by-step videos produced, allowing students to revisit the content at any time. This can be supplemented by traditional seminars and lecturers as deemed appropriate per programme. Students are also assigned an academic advisor which will support the students through their assignments and ensure that they receive appropriate and relevant guidance to successfully complete this module.

To support students to undertake research, with a focus appropriate to their programme and area of practice and building upon the research proposal formulated in research methods . To create a peer learning community for students to critically support each other in the research process. To provide guidance, additional to that provided by the students’ supervisors, on matters of ethical application, research methods, data collection, analysis and writing-up.
