Course Overview

Delivered by Great Ormond Street Hospital Learning Academy (GLA), this 15-credit module aims to develop and apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of advanced level practitioners in management and leadership in the healthcare context, adult learning, educational theory, and personal professional development.

This module can be taken standalone or as part of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Paediatrics & Child Health).

About your course

Teaching

Active learning will allow students to learn via collaboration, cooperation, and peer-based learning. Activities may include interactive lectures, clinical skills demonstration and supervised practice, small group activities, case-based discussions, workshops and tutorials.

Synchronous and asynchronous learning and teaching activities are delivered via a combination of study days and digital strategies at local sites or online using the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Assessment

Formative assessment will be:

  1. Small group work
  2. Reflective activities.

For the summative assessment, learners will:

  1. Present a 10 minute educational session
  2. Podcast or written assignment regarding applied leadership theory.

Teaching dates

This module may involve a mixture of online and face-to-face days. Face-to-face teaching will be held on or near the Great Ormond Street Hospital site.

Assessment date: TBC

To undertake this module, you must:

  • Honours degree achieving 2:2 classification or above in a healthcare related subject.
  • Current registration as a healthcare professional with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • A minimum of three years full time experience (or equivalent) in the relevant area of practice.
