Course Overview

This module is a must for those working in healthcare and community services who are looking to explore quality enhancements and future service development. The teaching and learning strategy is designed to facilitate learning for busy learners, making it easier to study from home at your own pace.

You have the option of studying a single module for 15 credits or as part of a certificate, an undergraduate degree or master’s degree at Level 6 or 7.

This module will develop your leadership knowledge and skills within your area of expertise. It will give you the expertise to take the lead in developing services and enhancing quality within a particular service.

Particular emphasis will be placed on fostering participatory approaches in a way that facilitates yourself, clients and others you work with.

Teaching

Active learning will be used to encourage interaction between learners and tutors, drawing on user and community expertise as well as your own experiences. You will be provided with online learning materials and online lectures as well as additional guided reading.

Engaging with active discussion boards and tutorials will enable you to consolidate, reflect and extend your knowledge, and help not only to prepare you for the assessment but also to introduce changes to support service development within your work place.

Assessment

The assessment will be in two parts:

The development of a multimedia resource which contributes to a service improvement
A written critical analysis identifying an issue and developing a potential plan for addressing this utilising your multi-media resource.

Entry requirements

To undertake this module you must be working or have worked in an area of public or community service where you are able to discuss and develop the learning within this module.

If you are interested in undertaking Level 7 study you should have evidence of previous study at level 6.

The fees* below refer to the 2023/24 academic year unless otherwise stated.

*Course fees are subject to annual inflation.

There are several funding options available:

receiving course fees via CPPD contracts between NHS trusts and Middlesex University
paying your own fees
sponsorship by your employer (but not under a CPPD contract).
