How to apply as an international student

Applying to Middlesex is a quick and easy process, and we’re here to help you each step of the way. How you apply will depend on your level of study.

Important information for international students

Undergraduate - Year 1

For entry to most of our undergraduate courses, we require successful completion of College Entrance Examination with 60% or China High School Graduation Certificate with a minimum average of 75. If you have any questions about entry requirements and the suitability of your qualifications, please contact your regional team.

To find out more about our entry requirements for China, please read our guide. Pre-sessional English and ongoing English language support.

For students who would like to study at Middlesex, but don't meet our English language requirements we offer a range of pre-sessional English courses. By the end of the course you will have the academic English and confidence to study on a Middlesex degree. And, you won't need to take any further English language tests, such as IELTS.

We also provide English language support throughout your degree programme. We run free workshops and one-to-one tutorials in academic writing, English language, and communication so you can continue to improve your English skills while you study with us.

We understand that knowing how you’ll fund your studies as an international student is something you’ll want to tick off your list as soon as possible. We’ve got plenty of support on budgeting to help you get the most out of your money and your university experience.

The Textile Alliance Scholarship for Masters in Art and Design

This gold standard scholarship allows a high achieving student who is a permanent resident in China the opportunity to study full time for a one-year masters programme, in an Art and Design discipline at Middlesex University. The student will be assessed on their design skills and ability by our academic staff in London and our Asia Pacific Regional Hub.
The scholarship will fund tuition fees and living expenses in London for the duration of the programme.

SQA centers scholarship

We offer scholarships for our partner institutions namely SQA centers in China. 

A range of scholarships are available:

  • Full scholarship with a requirement of at least 6.5 IELTS and GU AA
  • half scholarship with a requirement of at least 6.0 IELTS and GU AA
  • £3000 scholarship with a requirement of at least 5.5 IELTS and GU AB
  • £1000 scholarship with a requirement of at least 5.5 IELTS

You can also apply for the British Government's Chevening Scholarships, and a variety of private agencies and charities for scholarships, bursaries and grants to study in the UK. For more information visit the British Council website or the UK Council for International Student Affairs website.

The following requirements must be met in order for your visa application to be successful:

UKVI Requirements

  • Submit an online application through the UKVI website. You will need to submit your valid CAS, payment of the visa fee and immigration health surcharge
  • Upload the relevant supporting documents (passport, academic documents, evidence of meeting or being exempt from English language requirements, evidence of meeting financial requirements, ATAS certificate if required, TB test certificate if required)
  • Biometric data collected at the visa application centre
  • You must be able to provide evidence that you can meet the financial requirements if asked to do so, but you do not need to provide this evidence at the time of application

Successful applicants will receive an Entry Clearance vignette in their passport and will be able to collect their Biometric Residence permit in the UK.
