Middlesex University has been rated ‘Silver’ in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework – meaning student experience and outcomes are typically very high-quality.
The University was praised for its very high quality course content and delivery, which encourages students to engage in their learning, in the report by independent regulator the Office for Students (OfS).
The OfS also highlighted the excellent support for the professional development of staff and was impressed by how effectively Middlesex supports students to succeed within and beyond their studies.
"The rating reflects the strong collaborative approach and extraordinary hard work and dedication of the entire Middlesex global community." Professor Sean Wellington, Interim Vice-Chancellor
Expert reviewers also noted the range of educational gains the University intends students to achieve and how they are highly relevant to students and their future ambitions. The Silver rating is just one level below the highest standard possible and indicates Middlesex University is performing well above the OfS regulatory baseline.
Middlesex University is proud to be a global university and opted to include its overseas campuses and apprenticeship provision in the submission so the Silver rating applies to undergraduate and apprenticeship provision at the London, Dubai and Mauritius campuses.
Professor Sean Wellington, Interim Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University, said: “I’m extremely proud of Middlesex University’s Silver TEF rating. It indicates that student experience and outcomes are typically very high quality and that we are performing well above the OfS regulatory baseline. The rating reflects the strong collaborative approach and extraordinary hard work and dedication of the entire Middlesex global community.”
In a breakdown of the overall Silver rating, the TEF report gave Middlesex University a Silver rating for student outcomes. This means student outcomes are typically very high-quality, which reflects students’ success during and after their studies and the improvements they make in knowledge, skills, work-readiness and personal development as a result of studying at Middlesex.
The University was rated Bronze for student experience, which means student experience is typically high-quality, and there are some very high quality features, which reflects students’ excellent educational experience overall, including teaching, learning, assessment and the environment on campus.
These ratings were awarded in 2023, for four years. The TEF is a national scheme run by the OfS that rates what students care about most: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies. The TEF does this by assessing and rating universities and colleges for excellence above a set of minimum requirements for quality and standards.
