The Centre for Social and Criminological Research (CSCR) was originally established in 1986 as the Centre for Criminology and renamed in 2014 to reflect our developing cross-disciplinary focus and activity. The CSCR provides a hub for international and locally based research grouped within the thematic areas of political and state violence, global social movements, criminal justice, offender management and treatment, and gendered sexual relations. The Centre's aim is to amplify the reputation of these Middlesex University research areas as widely as possible and within the international context.
The Centre conducts rigorous independent research incorporating principles of social justice, equality, and modern citizenship. Our research is theoretical as well as empirically driven. Staff have expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and data analysis, and project evaluation. We are interested in fostering and facilitating interdisciplinary links with academic colleagues and across professional and institutional practice.
CSCR members have extensive international research links and long-term experience in teaching on master's programmes and supervising PhD students in the fields of migration, criminal justice, youth offending, drugs, environmental crime, political violence and conflict.
