European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC)
The European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) is an independent human rights litigation centre based in the School of Law at Middlesex University.
EHRAC supports and collaborates with human rights defenders in Ukraine and the South Caucasus to litigate ground-breaking strategic cases to secure justice and challenge impunity. Together, EHRAC and its partners identify systemic abuses and respond to urgent threats to civil society and marginalised communities.
EHRAC was founded in 2003 and to date the Centre has:
- Mentored, and collaborated with, over 100 lawyers from across the post-Soviet region
- Represented more than 1300 applicants in 495 cases (with the majority before the European Court of Human Rights)
- Achieved a success rate in judgments of over 94%
- Secured over €14,700,000 in compensation for applicants.
EHRAC’s current work focuses on three intersecting areas: Civic Space and Democratic Accountability; Conflict and Security Force Abuses; Discrimination.
